Home Affairs Contact Centre still a nightmare for immigrants wishing to reside in South Africa

The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, launched the Home Affairs Contact Centre on 18 October 2016 to replace the Call Centre while offering a multi-platform channel to provide clients with various options to interface with the Department.

This may sound like a more competent and hassle free solution to the communication problems that have been faced by most applicants. However, upon closer inspection there has been no real change for immigrants wishing to reside in South Africa. Continue reading

Can I travel with my Home Affairs receipt?

While the application of your temporary residence permit is still “pending” or “in process” at the Department of Home Affairs, one can still travel in and out of the Republic. Even though the current visa/permit in the passport has expired.

When the temporary residence application was submitted at the Department of Home Affairs, the official that accepted the application would have issued you with an “Acknowledgement of Receipt”. This Receipt allows one to enter and exit the Republic.
